Crossborder Shopping Changes

There is good news and bad news for expatriate parents out there — customs regulations are changing on 1 July 2014.   Whereas wine imports will increase (up to five litres from 2 litres), meat imports will be limited to 1 kilo (down from 3.5kg of prepared/cured meats & 500g of fresh/frozen).

There will also be a maximum total import value of 300 CHF.  For imports over and above that amount, TVA will be charged: 2.5% for food & drink and 8% for all other items.

Items exempt of taxes include butter (1 litre) and cream (1 kg), increase for oils (5kg instead of 4kg).
